Mavo’s “Mofe” Keeps the Burbur Wave Rolling in 2026

The “Burbur music” architect is back. Fresh off a history-making 2025, Nigerian rapper-singer Mavo has kicked off the new year with his latest single, “Mofe,” proving that his reign as Afrobeats’ most exciting new maverick is far from over.
At just 22 years old, Mavo (real name Marvin Oseremen Ukanigbe) has achieved what most artists only dream of. Last November, he was crowned Billboard’s “African Rookie of the Month,” a global nod that came after he achieved the rare feat of occupying the top three spots on the Apple Music Nigeria Top Songs chart simultaneously. Those tracks—”Money Constant” with Wizkid, “BODY (danz)” with CKay, and the “Shakabulizzy (Remix)” with Davido—cemented him as the Gen Z voice everyone wants a verse from.
Now, with “Mofe,” Mavo returns to his high-energy, street-pop roots. Driven by heavy bass and a catchy, chant-like chorus, the track explores the playful theme of female attention, delivering a rhythmic vibe tailor-made for the dancefloor. This release follows his February 2026 double-pack, “Aura Salad” and “Hey Mama,” where he experimented with EDM and Alternative R&B textures alongside producer SoundGawd.

Currently balancing his music career with his optometry degree (he graduates in July 2026), Mavo shows no signs of slowing down. He has successfully built his own “Bizzylingua”—a dictionary of slang including words like “Burbur” and “Burti”—turning his unique identity into a cultural movement. If 2025 was his breakout, 2026 is the year Mavo becomes a permanent fixture.
