Her sound is a combination of Afrobeats, Soul, R&B, and Jazzy flare. Growing up in London, Nkiru drew inspiration and this is what inspires her versatile writing, philosophy, and musical technique. Speaking about the single Nkiru says:
“I recorded ‘suffer’ in 2020 after the Lekki tollgate massacre. I felt like we weren’t being heard by the government and as a creative, I decided to record a song about it and get it off my chest.”
Suffer’ which employs chant is aimed at encouraging Nigerians to exercise their rights in the critical 2023 elections. Nkiru hopes to inspire Nigerians while also honoring those who lost their lives at the Lekki massacre.
