Ahead of his forthcoming fourth studio album, Nigerian music megastar, Davido teams up with Spotify for a special playlist called ‘Timeless Afro playlist’ which celebrates some of Afrobeats’ quintessential and long- standing records. Davido recently announced that his upcoming album will be released on 31st March 2023.
Curated by Davido, the playlist contains some of the relevant classics that defined the Afrobeats era; a perfect blend of music that serves as a bridge between the older, middle age and younger generations, including hits by his fellow contemporaries, Wizkid, Wande Coal, Tekno, Mr Eazi ; nostalgic classics from Afrobeats Prime, with songs like, 2Baba’s African Queen, Oruka by Sunny Nneji, 9ice’s Gongo Aso, foundational tracks that inspired generations of Afrobeats acts including Fela Kuti’s Zombie; and the melodious voices of the new age, Joeboy, CKay and Rema.
Spotify’s Head of Music for Africa, Phiona Okumu said “Davido represents the audacity, consistency and huge reach of Afrobeats and we’re glad to herald his new body of work by joining him in highlighting some of the most enduring contributions by Afrobeats acts to our musical canon over the years”.

OBO as he is fondly called by his fans, continues to set a precedent as one of the global faces of African Music with his unique sound and style, there is no doubt that this album will be worth the long wait his loyal fans have endured due to his hiatus caused by a personal tragedy.
