Organizers of the highly anticipated Felabration music festival have announced the dates for this year’s edition, which will take place from Monday, October 9 to Sunday, October 15, 2023. Felabration is an annual week-long celebration honoring the legendary Nigerian Afrobeat pioneer and human rights activist, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, and his immense contributions to music and society.
Founded in 1998 by Fela’s daughter, Yeni Anikulapo-Kuti, the festival aims to commemorate and preserve Fela’s legacy. In a recent press release, the organizers unveiled the theme for this year’s event: ‘Question Jam Answer,’ inspired by one of Fela’s classic records released in 1972. The theme resonates with the current socio-political climate, reflecting the collective search for answers following a thought-provoking general election.
Felabration 2023 promises an immersive experience showcasing African music, creativity, and resilience through a diverse range of art, dance, fashion, and music. Alongside the highly anticipated musical concert, the festival will also feature engaging activities such as the Senior Secondary Schools Debate, The Fela Debates (Symposium), The Afrobics Dance Competition, The Artwork Competition, and The Dress Fela Fashion Competition.
The organizers have confirmed that the musical concert will feature some of Nigeria’s biggest music stars, as well as renowned international artists. The iconic New Afrika Shrine in Ikeja, Lagos, will serve as the vibrant venue for this celebration of African culture and music.
Felabration has gained recognition as Nigeria’s largest music festival, attracting tens of thousands of attendees each year. It serves as a testament to Fela’s enduring influence and the continued celebration of his remarkable legacy. Don’t miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in the electrifying atmosphere of Felabration 2023.
