2023 has been a great year for Nigerian music as Afrobeats continued to enjoy international success led by the continued global rise of Nigerian superstars; from Rema’s electric performance at his sold out show at the O2 Arena, Tems’ Oscars Nomination (as the first Nigerian to be nominated) and Grammy win (another feat as the first female afrobeats artists to win a Grammy), Burna boy x Tems x Rema’s NBA Halftime Show to Wizkid receiving the prestigious BRIT Billion Award.
And so it is no surprise that Nigerian
superstars dominate the Best African category for the 2024 MOBO awards.
Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Rema, Asake, Adekunle Gold, and Ayra Starr all earned nominations. Joining the Nigerian contingent are South African star Tyla, Swaziland hitmaker Uncle Waffles, and Cameroonian-American sensation Libianca.
